Yes you heard right. Veteran jam band Gov’t Mule was at The Mountain Arts Center (The MAC) in Prestonsburg KY this Monday, Oct 9th. Groundbreaking? Well yea, kind of. For over 20 years The MAC has been providing entertainment for eastern Kentucky covering a pretty nice span of genres…Gospel, Country, Rock, Comedy etc.. The MAC isn’t a large theater in the grand scheme of things, only holding around 1,000 What they do offer is an intimate venue to see your favorite bands with not a bad seat in the house.
2017 has been a year of change for the The MAC as we’ve seen a changing of the guard in the form of new Staffing with Clayton Case taking over as Executive Director, Shelly Crisp as Assistant Director & Joe Campbell overseeing Programming & Marketing. This trifecta of new leadership has spark freshness that has been much needed. Now that you have some background, on with Gov’t Mule!
As I said earlier bringing Gov’t Mule to Prestonsburg and the MAC is groundbreaking. This pioneering Jam Band has basically been putting out albums and touring worldwide for almost 25 years and somehow no one ever brought them to our region… until now. New genre for the area?.. Yes A risk?.. Yes Was is worth it?.. YES! Mule has always had a loyal fanbase and this Monday proved that this group of like-minded people will show up on a Monday night to enjoy a 3 hour action packed show. From 7:30pm until almost 11:00pm Warren Haynes and company blasted through all the songs you’d want them to do and more. Thanking the building and the fans more than once Gov’t Mule proved the Jam Band world has a welcome place in Eastern Kentucky..and it’s right here at the Mountain Arts Center.
If you were lucky enough to catch this show let the MAC know that you will gladly show up for more bands like this. Thanks
